Our Mission/Purpose
The Main Purpose of The Muslim Compass is to form a central network and resource for organizations that include (yet not limited to) youth groups, young professionals groups, university MSAs, and Mosques.
Our Goals
- Help develop youth groups in Mosques and Centers that already have existing groups.
- Establish youth groups in Mosques and Centers that do not have existing groups.
- Create coordinated events between different groups and organizations.
- Create a central resource of speakers, series, ideas, Islamic curriculum, and other necessary resources.
- Create an Islamic Curriculum for interested groups that develop the fundamentals and basic sciences of Islam.
Our Team

Amira Mustafa – Treasurer
Amira is passionate about community service and uplifting the Muslim community.
She grew up in Raleigh and spent her youth in the Islamic Association of Raleigh. Amira obtained her undergraduate degree in Public Policy at UNC-Chapel Hill, and is currently working on her doctorate in Pharmacy at UNC-Chapel Hill. Her goal is to serve the community through health care. She is currently taking Islamic classes with Miftaah Online Seminary, and is passionate about the youth. She is involved in The Muslim Compass, College MSAs, and Helping Hand.

Rafia Shaikh – Event Coordinator
Rafia has a passion for the Muslim community in NC. Growing up in the Triangle, she spent much of her youth being involved in events at the Cary Masjid (IAC), Morrisville Masjid (ICM), and Raleigh Masjid (IAR). Rafia is currently on board with The Muslim Compass (TMC) as Event Coordinator and enjoys creating fun spaces for community members. Rafia earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from UNCG and plans on pursing a career in medicine. In her free time, Rafia enjoys taking walks in nature, staying fit–whether at the gym or in various fitness classes–and spending time with her family.

Nour Zarrouk – Communication Coordinator
Nour has always been involved in community service in the triangle area….. During her time at UNC Chapel Hill, where Nour received her undergraduate degrees in Biostatistics and Religious Studies, she was very active in the muslim community serving as a member of MSA and Shurah for 2 years….Nour also received her masters degree in Analytics from NC State and currently works as an Associate Consultant in Durham, NC. In her free time, Nour enjoys photography and has recently started her own professional photography business. Outside of photography, Nour likes to spend time outdoors playing tennis and soccer. Additionally, she loves to cook Mediterranean food and travel, especially to her parents’ home country, Tunisia.

Mohsen Zakaib – President
Mohsen is immensely passionate about the Muslim community, and this can be seen through his involvements with local organizations including IAR, The Light House Project, Refugee Medical Mentoring Initiative, and others. Mohsen graduated from NC State with both a bachelors and a masters in Nuclear Engineering, and has now career-transitioned his journey to medicine.

Abdul Muqtadir Khadri – Event Coordinator
Abdul Muqtadir has been actively involved in the Muslim community in Raleigh, Cary, Greenville, and Morrisville since his childhood. He is currently on the board for multiple organizations: RISE (Rejuvenating Islamic Societal Excellence), TMC (The Muslim Compass), and MYG (Muslim Youth of Greenville). Most recently, his efforts have been behind helping launch MehfilX (A gathering of remembrance to express love to Allah and His beloved Prophet) and Halal Eats NC (list of all the halal spots to eat in NC). Along with his roles in these organizations, Muqtadir likes to be involved with The Lighthouse Project, An-Noor Masjid youth group, and Cary Masjid youth group (IAC), Aside from his involvement in the local Masjid’s, Muqtadir enjoys cooking, playing basketball, going to the gym, DIY-contracting, and even dabbling in photography. Muqtadir earned his bachelors degree in Public Health and Business from ECU and later transitioned to Information Technology and now works as a Project Manager at Charles Schwab.

Taha Karimi – Project Manager
Graduated with a Bachelors in Computer Science from NC State University.
